Teen Challenge is a non-profit, interdenominational Christian organization whose mission is to help men and women overcome substance addictions and learn to live full and productive lives. The program uses a holistic, faith-based approach to treatment and recovery rather than traditional step programs, and success in recovery is defined as abstinence instead of a harm-reduction strategy. The movement was started in by David Wilkerson, a pastor in New York City who wanted to reach out to troubled street youth.

Bernie Gillott serves as the Global Evangelism Coordinator and assists Teen Challenge centers around the world with a variety of outreaches, including crusades, street outreaches, and musical events. He also is actively involved in providing training to staff and volunteers on how to conduct effective community outreaches. Bernie and Cathy Gillott have served the Teen Challenge ministry in different capacities for over 30 years, directing operations and development, as well as training and traveling with over different Teen Challenge Choirs on five continents, 47 states of the US and coast to coast in Canada.
Founded in in New York City, Teen Challenge is an interdenominational, faith-based residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program operating in 82 countries, with over 1, autonomous locations worldwide. Upon graduation, students have the option to participate in Phase 4, a 6-month post-graduation residential program that gives students more time to set goals and transition back into society. Students in this program also act as mentors to those in the month program.
Teen Challenge came to First, Petrolia in June telling us about their program and explaining how drugs are such a huge part of our society today. The Teen Challenge farm is in Lambeth—just south west of London and has 52 students and 16 interns presently. When the students come into the program, they are immediately put into a very regimented program of work, study and worship.
